On Tuesday, February 14, Kings Canyon Unified School Board kicked off the Valentine’s Day Meeting with talent from Reedley High School’s Madrigals Choir Group.
After the Valentine’s Day performance, the board members proceeded with agenized items including its routine purchase order approvals. The $5,813,855.29 approval included:
- $231,513.45 to Haddad Dodge for three new work trucks
- $72,363.06 for new furniture at the A.L. Corner Library
- $15,000 to Jon Yost, a retired administrator at Sanger Unified, for consulting.
- $14,621.33 to Definitive Strength and Conditioning
- $13,920.27 at Golf Carts by Design Inc for a new cart at Dunlap
- $5,322.07 for Office Furniture
- $4,000 to Educate, Empower, Lead for Climate and Culture Workshops at Dunlap School
- $4,000 to Inform 2 Inspire for educational data consulting
- $861.53 to modify a library desk
- $842.94 for a Varidesk Standing Desk
- $228.15 at 4Imprint, a customized promotion item vendor, for pens
Other expenditures applied on staff credit cards which varied in purchases at Save Mart Supermarkets, Spotify Music, Amazon, and other vendors totaled $2,835.74 from January 16, 2023, through January 31, 2023, are detailed below:
Board members also approved an amended contract with “School Faculty Consultants” to assist KCUSD with funding eligibility for new construction, assistance with submitting related documents, and advising KCUSD on which events they should attend and participate in that could benefit funding eligibility for projects. With Tuesday’s unanimous approval among board members, the contract will see the annual amount for the fiscal year July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023, increased from $24,000 to $49,600.

The spending approvals came on the heels of the last school board meeting on January 24 where board members approved report cards for each campus within KCUSD. The percentage of each campus that met or exceeded state standards for English, Math, and Science are detailed below:
Test scores were approved unanimously and board members gave no remarks during the meeting on this item.
