KCUSD audit finds $941,000 in lost revenue, teachers illegally underpaid

Matthew Casarez

Kings Canyon Unified School Board received it’s audit report at Tuesday’s meeting. The audit revealed that the school district lost $941,594 in general fund revenue due to the district failing to correctly record and report funds.

According to the audit, the error stemmed from the district miscalculating an in-person instruction grant as an entitlement.

The audit also found that KCUSD spent 47.05 percent of total expenditures on classroom teacher salaries. However, the Education Code requires by law that classroom teacher salaries shall meet or exceed 55 percent. The error resulted in the District being deficient by 7.95% or $10,950,455. A possible solution; KCUSD may have to request a waiver from the County Superintendent’s Office.

In stead of buying furniture maybe we should pay the teachers what we owe them and also looks like we need tutors at the school to help with the poor scores our children have !!!
